Paul Metsa interviews legendary KUMD.org DJ John Bushey. John is celebrating his 25th year of hosting Highway 61 Revisited, a show honoring Bob Dylan and features live and unreleased Dylan recordings you won’t hear anywhere else. John considers himself an “abstract expressionist of the radio” and creates shows around various themes and different aspects of Dylan’s 50 year career. John is also a professional musician and considers Harry Houdini a big of influence on his life and work as Bob Dylan. Paul and John chatted about how the show began, his experiences with various Bobcats and kittens, and his decade long fight with cancer. John is an incredibly humble guy, has a great set of vocal pipes, and knows as much about Dylan’s music as just about anybody in the biz.
