Written by queer playwright Nathan Yungerberg, Abuelita follows Davia, who has come from Iowa after the death of her daughter, so her grandson Jesús can connect with the culture of his unknown Nuyorican father. But New York is “hotter’n a blister bug in a pepper patch,” and as the heat rises, Davia’s world begins to transform—making way for an exciting new life filled with music, dancing, community, and awakening.
