Theatre Pro Rata Presents Fefu and Her Friends: An Immersive Journey, Running May 11–28
Theatre Pro Rata presents a deeply immersive staging of María Irene Fornés’ Fefu and Her Friends, set within the historic architecture of the Searle Mansion from May 11 through May 28. Transporting audiences to a 1930s New England country house, the production follows a circle of women whose conversations and confidences reveal a rich tapestry of sharp humor and haunting truths. This unique promenade-style performance breaks the traditional theatrical mold by inviting guests to physically move through the mansion’s various rooms. During the second act, the audience splits into small groups to rotate through simultaneous scenes, allowing for an intimate, “eavesdropping” experience that makes the narrative feel immediate, personal, and impossible to replicate in a standard theater.
As part of the national “Celebrando Fornés” initiative, this production honors Fornés’ legacy by bringing her groundbreaking work to life in a way that feels fresh and alive. Theatre Pro Rata is committed to inclusivity, offering ASL-interpreted, audio-described, and mobility-accessible performances on select dates to ensure all guests can engage with this living event.
