Derek Strong, Director of Military Programs for the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, joins Laurie Fitz to discuss programs that support service member’s transition to civilian opportunities in the foodservice industry.
The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) has established an industry-training program that prepares transitioning service members for entry into a Restaurant Manager apprenticeship program or an opportunity for direct hire as a Restaurant Manager.
  • The NRAEF Restaurant Manager SkillBridge program is an opportunity for Service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through specific industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during the last 180 days of service.
  • This opportunity is a twelve (12) week intensive program that combines e-instruction plus work experience in a supervised real-world environment.   Partnered restaurant managers, who will guide students in skill development and workplace success, will supervise participants of the program.
  • The primary focus of this program is Front of the House Knowledge/Service Culture; Back of the House / Restaurant Kitchen Knowledge; Product Quality and Cost Control; and Branding and Marketing.
