The Matt McNeil Show – July 12, 2021

Hour 1 segment 1: Matt McNeil starts today’s show speaking with Cliff Schecter. They discuss the clown show from the weekend that was CPAC, COVID vaccine conspiracy theories, Republican gaslighting on the 1/6 insurrection and BLM and more.

Hour 1 segment 2: Tim Pawlenty gives a disastrous interview defending CPAC’s embrace of far-right, anti-government militia members saying “Well, I bet if I went to any number of leftist gatherings, I could find a bunch of goofballs as well.”

Hour 1 segment 3: Examples of how so called “responsible” gun owners are not actually that responsible, including a 4 year old being shot by their sibling. And Matt’s thoughts on the controversy surrounding DFL rep. John Thompson and how St. Paul police are disputing his account where he said he was racially profiled when pulled over. Plus questions over Thompson’s residency being he’s had a Wisconsin drivers license for several years.

Hour 1 segment 4: Another case of a business owner (Lion’s Tap in Eden Prairie) blaming their inability to hire workers due to the extra unemployment benefits. This despite Lion’s tap getting over 750K in COVID government loans.

Hour 2 segment 1: Matt is joined by Dr. Jeffrey Butts of the Research & Evaluation Center at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. They discuss alternative community methods to policing and public safety and data showing how some of those alternatives methods have and have not worked.

Hour 2 segment 2: Matt continues the conversation about alternative methods to policing.

Hour 2 segments 3/4: Religious conservatives gone wrong! We highlight a right wing Minnesota pastor who was arrested for impersonating a police officer when pursuing a small time shoplifter. And the Diocese of La Crosse, WI removes Father James Altman as pastor of St. James the Less after he criticized COVID-19 vaccination efforts and pandemic-related restrictions on church gatherings as “Nazi-esque controls” and also saying Democrats would go to hell.
