The Matt McNeil Show – August 2, 2021

Hour 1 segment 1: Matt took a trip to the Iron Range over the weekend and shares some thoughts about conversations we had with residents. They agree with progressives on some issues, and disagree on others (getting vaccinated). On vaccines Matt talks about how anti-vaxxers love the diamond in the rough theory, even though it rarely ever happens.

Hour 1 segment 2: Matt did talk some Iron Rangers who did agree with him on the need to do something about climate change in light of this year’s drought. They also shared agreement that those responsible for the January 6 insurrection/terrorist attack should be held accountable.

Hour 1 segment 3: The MN COVID-19 update. Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins appears to be voluntarily unvaccinated. Could Florida schools, which start next week, become super spreader events? Target and other MN retailers are changing policies on masking. And more MN colleges are putting in vaccine mandates.

Hour 1 segment 4: We wonder what is the MN Republican Party’s policy on vaccinations and masks at their state fair booth.

Hour 2 segment 1: A Mankato mosque was vandalized over the weekend. This follows an incident earlier this year in Moorhead where a mosque was vandalized.

Hour 2 segment 2: The national eviction moratorium just expired. Matt talks about the dire economic consequences we could face with the end of the moratorium. And a likely increase in homelessness in the US.

Hour 2 segments 3/4: A moratorium on utility bills is set to expire in Minnesota. Thousands of Minnesotans could have their services soon shut off. Then Matt revisits a Rolling Stone piece detailing the rampant historical racism within the Minneapolis Police Department. The article shows that Minneapolis doesn’t have a problem, it’s their police department.
