Native Roots Radio Presents I’m Awake – July 27, 2022

Robert Pilot, Wendy Pilot and Ogimaa Giniw Ikwe host today’s show. Ogimaa has our news. She talks about the passing of Rev. Marlene Whiterabbit Helgemo, the first Native woman ordained in the Lutheran church. She also talks about a rally tomorrow at the Bagley County Courthouse in honor of those who were arrested at camp Firelight and the controversy surrounding pope receiving and wearing a headdress. Next we’re joined by Anika Robbins, CEO of the ANIKA Foundation, founder of Black Votes MN and former Chair of MCCR, as she talks about Home Help MN and how people can qualify for housing and other types of financial assistance. In our sacred animals segment Wendy talks about 400-plus beagles being removed from a breeding facility in Virginia by the Humane Society and how they are now up for adoption.
