The Wacipi is the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community’s (SMSC) annual pow wow the third weekend every August, when friends and relatives gather to celebrate their Dakota culture and way of life. This social gathering is open to the public. Dancers and singers perform in traditional regalia. The word “Wacipi” (pronounced “wah-chee-pee”) is Dakota for “they dance.”
